Muslim Journeys Bookshelf Award - A presentation celebrates the addition of new material at the West Irving and Central Libraries.
The National Endowment for the Humanities in partnership with the American Library Association presented the Building Bridges Bookshelf Award.
The Building Bridges Bookshelf Award, titled Muslim Journeys, provides 25 books, three art videos, and access to the Oxford Islamic Studies Online for each Library. Awarded to over 800 libraries and universities across the country, the purpose of the grant is to open dialogue in a diverse community.
Residents are invited to participate in programs offered at West Irving Library and Central Library as an opportunity to learn more about their neighbors. Both locations will be hosting art programs provided by one of the grant partners, the Texas Muslim Women's Foundation, and the Central Library will show a video on Muslim architecture. Armchair travelers are invited to pick up passports at their local Library that provide reading opportunities that span the cultures and habits of the entire globe, from Texas to Australia.
