Statewide Hurricane Evacuation Exercise - Irving was among several cities participating in a statewide hurricane evacuation exercise. People posing as evacuees flew from the Gulf Coast, and spent the night at Senter Park Recreation Center. The city teamed up with local non-profit organizations to practice a coordinated disaster response. In addition to hurricanes, the City of Irving’s Office of Emergency Management says the shelter could also be used for local disasters, such as a large fire or tornado
